🕊🕋🕊 Merits of the 🕊🕋🕊
🕋 Month of Rajab 🕋
Excerpted from - Mafatih al-Jinan
🕊 Afzal Sumar 🕊
There are four sacred months for the Muslim community. One of them is the month of Rajab, This booklet highlights the benefits of fasting, praying and respecting this special month.
**🕋🙏🕋**
It is narrated from the Prophet (S) who said: ‘the month of Rajab is the greatest month of Allah. No month can come close to matching its sanctity and grace. Fighting the disbelievers in it is prohibited. Indeed, Rajab is the month of Allah, while Shaʿban is my month and (the month of) Ramaḍan is the month of my community. Surely, the one who fasts (even) one day in (the month of) Rajab deserves the greatest pleasure of Allah. The wrath of Allah moves away from him, and a door from the doors of hell is closed for him.’
The seventh Imam Musa b. Jafar (as) (d. 183 AH / 799 AD) said: ‘whoever fasts one day in the month of Rajab has the fire (of hell) keep away from him the distance of one year, while whoever fasts three days (in this month) has paradise become incumbent for him.’
Shaykh ʿAbbass al-Qummi (d. 1359 AH / 1940 AD) then suggests that if one does wish to fast three days in this month, he should choose to fast on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday since it is narrated that: ‘whoever fasts these three days in any of the Sacred months will have Allah reward him with the reward applicable to the worship of nine hundred years.’
The seventh Imam also said: ‘Rajab is (the name of) a river in paradise. Its color is whiter than milk; its taste is sweeter than honey. Whoever fasts one day in (the month of) Rajab will have Allah quench his thirst from that river.’
The sixth Imam al-Sadiq (as) (d. 148 AH / 765 AD) transmits the following report from the Prophet of Allah (S), who said: ‘(The month of) Rajab is the month of seeking repentance for my community, so increase the seeking of repentance in it for He (Allah) is Forgiving and Merciful. This month is called “al-Rajab al-Asabb” (i.e. the (month of) Rajab in which there is an abundant and excessive outpouring and flow). This is because the mercy of Allah flows on my community (in this month) with abundant exuberance. Therefore dedicate yourselves with increasing intensity to the recitation of the formula:
استغفر الله و اسئله التوبة
Astaghfirullaha wa asʾaluhu al-tawba
(Translation: I seek Allah’s forgiveness and I beseech His repentance).
A general perusal of the recitations and rituals recommended in the devotional text Mafatihul Jinan for this month indicates that the Imams of the Ahlulbayt have encouraged their followers to recite the following formulas / recitations exceedingly in the month of Rajab. These are:
1) استغفر الله واتوب اليه – astaghfirullaha wa atubu ilayhi (Translation: I seek Allah’s forgiveness and I turn repentantly towards Him).
2) لا اله الا الله – la ilaha illallahu (Translation: There is no god but Allah).
3) Sura al-Ikhlas.
Of course, there are specifications as to the number of repetitions required of these recitations, and for each specification there are slight changes in the wordings of the recommended formulas, however, the core teaching that one can deduce from all these different specifications and wordings is that an excess in the recitation of these recitations is highly encouraged.
Ibn Babwayhi (al-Shaykh al-Saduq) (d. 381 AH / 991 AD) narrates from Salim by means of a reliable chain who said: ‘I visited al-Sadiq (as) in the month of Rajab. This was at a time when only a few days remained in this month. When he saw me, he asked: “Did you fast any of the days of this month?” I replied: “by Allah, no I did not, son of the Messenger of Allah.” So he said to me: “Then you have forfeited a reward the worth and scope of which is unknown to any save Allah. Indeed this is a month which Allah has favoured, exalted its sanctity, and has enjoined the reward of grace for those who fast in it.” So I said: “son of the Messenger of Allah, what if I fasted during these remaining days, will I be able to partake of some of the rewards applicable to those who have fasted in it?”
He said: “Salim, whoever fasts one day from the last days of this month will be safe from the severity of the agony of death, and he shall be safe from the terrors of the first days of the grave (i.e. the beginning of purgatory) as well as the punishment of the grave. Whoever fasts two days from the last days of this month will obtain the permission of crossing the ‘bridge’ (with ease) due to it. Whoever fasts three days from the last days of this month will be safe and protected from the circumstances and severities of the day of the Great Fright (i.e., the day of judgement), and he will be granted immunity from hell fire.”
As for those who cannot fast, it is transmitted that they should glorify Allah every day a hundred times with the following glorification (al-taSbih) so that they may partake of the rewards applicable to fasting:
سبحان الاله الجليل سبحان من لا ينبغي التسبيح الا له سبحان الأعز الاكرم سبحان من لبس العز و هو له اهل
Subhanal-ilahi al-jalil, Subhana man la yanbaghi al-tasbihu illa lahu, Subhanal aʿazzi al-akram, Subhana man labisa al-ʿizza wa huwa lahu ahlun
(Translation): Glory be to the Exalted Sublime Deity. Glory be to the One, none other than whom is worthy of glorification. Glory be to the Most Mighty and Most Generous. Glory be to Him who has donned the attire of Dignity and He is most worthy of it.
The Famous Supplication of the Month of Rajab
Seyyid Ibn Tawus (d. 664 AH / 1265 AD) relates from Muhammad b. Dhakwan, who was well known by the title of ‘al-Sajjad’, (i.e. one who prostrates exceedingly). He was famously known by this title because he used to prostrate and weep a lot during prostration, till he lost his eyesight!
He relates: ‘I said to al-Sadiq (as): “May I be sacrificed for you, this is the month of Rajab, so teach me a supplication for this month by which Allah may grant me benefit.” The Imam said “Write: ‘In the name of Allah the Beneficent, the Merciful’, and recite (the following supplication) every day of the month of Rajab, morning and evening, as well as immediately after your daily ritual prayers, in the day time and night time:
يَا مَنْ أَرْجُوهُ لِكُلِّ خَيْرٍ ،
‘O One from whom I hope all goodness,
And from whose displeasure I seek safety and security at the moment of (committing) every evil.
O One who grants abundantly in return for little.
O One who grants whoever beseeches Him.
O One Who grants (even) the one who does not beseech Him and does not know Him, (yet He grants) in compassion and mercy!
So grant me the totality of the good of this world and that of the hereafter by my seeking You specifically.
Turn away from me the totality of the evil of this world and that of the hereafter by my seeking You specifically.
For certainly, there is no defect in what You grant,
And increase me Your Grace O Generous One.
The narrator said: ‘Then (when the Imam reached this point) he extended his left hand and took hold of his beard and then supplicated with the following supplication while taking recourse to the forefinger of his right hand, and said:
يَا ذَا الْجَلَالِ وَ الْإِكْرَامِ ،
‘O the Possessor of Majesty and Honour,
O the Possessor of Kindness and Munificence,
O the possessor of Favours and Power,
Bar my grey hair from the fire of hell’.”
1. Rajab is one of the four months of sanctity during which the Arabs would not fight. The other three months are Muḥarram, Safar and Dhū al-Ḥijja. This pre-Islamic custom was accommodated within Islam with some modifications.

Samkoma um sumar var sett á Þingeyri
Samkoma um sumar var sett á Þingeyri fyrir hanga heimþingaðar mót ok hatr. Hve fjarri guðirnir voru oss. Bræðr voru útlægir gerðir, til skóggǫngu dæmdir. Galdrs hapt arma farmr, þín svikula tunga var sigrsæl þessa myrku sumardaga. Hafa Goða varnendr eigi hegnt þér fyrir fyrirlitningarorð þín? En vilji þinn lifir. Svo bræðr á brims lakki sigla, fylgja dýrðarkalli í hinni gǫmlu Engla ættjǫrð ok Írlandi. Eylúðrs níu brúðir fylgja þeim, skartandi hvítum kórónum, dúks bǫl bar þær með bláum skýja gráti. Dyggar Ægis dætr sem senda hríðar skær til fjarlægra stranda frægðar ok feigðar. Sundvǫrpuðir sem eru bræðr undirheima flóðs ásynju. Margir vitrir menn með lærðar tungr sǫgðu oss sǫgr af fjarlægjum ríkjum. Fólki með álnir í suðri, af gunnum fyrir fé ok vegsemd í norðri. Af lǫngum viðar Heljar sjǫtum í Lade þar sem faðir oss eitt sinn bjó. Miklum steinhúsum í suðri þar sem skildir eru gerðir úr Ægis eldi ok sverð úr leggjar íss. Samþykkjar søkkvir, linns blóði. Af framandi nykra borg langt í suðri, þar sem aðeins mistr leiðir sunda skjær á staði hunangs ok víns. Langt, langt handan hins djúpa, djúpa ríkis þessa jǫkla akrs. Fyrir ykkr, bræðr, virtust hin kǫldu jarðar skaflof Orkneya lands svo nærri, hin grýtta strǫnd svo bjóðandi. En þið dóuð, bræðr. Teknir af Hropts hyrr í bardaga ok Blóðughadda á sjó, teknir til ríkja sem verða mér ókunn á lífi. Báleygs viðr, sævar rǫðuls, hvað mun verða um þetta hlíðþang er hafið horfið frá þessum heimi? Hveðrungs mær, gef þá aftr! Hermóðr, sigðis látrs, stefnir þú niðr á við? Aldrlok eru allt sem ég skynja. Fjǫrtal er allt sem ég sé. Dauðinn hefr vafið ǫrmum sínum um Njarðar megir frá deginum sem það fæddist í þennan heim.
[ENGLISH - A meeting at Þingeyri in summertime was set]
A meeting at Þingeyri in summertime was set for killing and hate. Brothers were outlawed and sent to the woods. Loptr, your cheating tongue was successful in these dark days of summer. Have the gods not punished you for your speech of contempt? But your spirit lives. So my brothers entered a ship to sail and followed the call for glory in old England and Ire. Waves followed them by wearing white crowns, winds carried them with blue rainclouds. Waves that loyally send ships to far away shores of fame and death. Winds that are brothers to the underworld of Rán. Many wise men with learned tongues told us stories of far away kingdoms. Of rich people down south, of battles for goods and glory up north. Long wooden halls at the place at lade where our grandfather once lived. Great stone-walled houses down south where shields are made of gold and swords of silver. Of foreign sea animals to the far west, where only fok leads ships to places of honey and wine. Far, far over the deep, deep kingdom of Rán. For you, brothers, the cold grey stones of the Orkneys seemed so near, the rocky beach so easy to enter! But you died, brothers. You were taken by Óðinn in battle and Rán at sea, taken to kingdoms unknown to me in life. Valbrand, Gísli, what shall become of this family now that you are gone from this world? Hel, give them back! Hermóðr, are you on your downward way? Death is everything I feel. Death is everything I see. Death has embraced Njǫrðr's kin since the day it was born to this world.

Infinity
Temazo.
And then you sing about sadness Around me, driving circles all the time
You know I look better in the dark Even when the sun is on the edge
You know Living was tiring

The series deconstructs the art and craft of making films and affords you the opportunity for the film school education you may have missed. Whether you’re a director, actor, producer or other pro, you’ll walk away much smarter about how to get the impact you want for your creative vision. The event is FREE but spaces are limited. RSVP now to [email protected] to reserve your opportunity to stream Episode 4 from January 31 to February 13, 2021, and join the follow-up live conversation via Zoom on Wednesday, February 17, at 7:00 PM Central. More about Episode 3: STREAMING DATES: January 31 to February 13, 2021 ZOOM FOLLOW-UP LIVE DISCUSSION: Wednesday, February 17, 2021 7:00 PM Central ZOOM GUEST MODERATOR: Jasmine Jones CHAPTER 9: STAGING -- Scene staging is an element of film form pointing clearly to cinema’s origin – theatre. Kinuyo Tanaka in The Moon Has Risen uses staging to shape the scene’s invisible geometry, accentuating the tension between characters. Maren Ade in Toni Erdmann stages the scene through depth, facilitating the tragicomic punchline. And in Maria Schrader’s Stefan Zweig: A Farewell to Europe, the criss-crossing complex staging in the final scene makes the space where it takes place come alive. CHAPTER 10: JOURNEY -- Movement is key to a motion picture, and journeys in film can be horizontal as well as vertical (into the self). Travel can be like glue and bind characters from two different worlds, like in Crane’s Confectionery where a middle-class woman and working class man go on a moral journey against society. Driving can be a test of will and courage, like in Nell Shipman’s Something New. The mode of transportation itself can serve as a safe space and a social microcosm, like the car in Andrea Arnold’s American Honey. Or, like in Jennifer Kent’s The Babadook, it can take the character on a journey into their nightmares. CHAPTER 11: DISCOVERY -- Discovery and revelation shape some of cinema’s most iconic moments. But beyond the best-known scenes, there lies the humanity, craft and insight of discovery – like in Céline Sciamma’s Tomboy, when the mother suddenly sees her child in a new light. There’s the discovery of the opposite sex’s naked form, like in the male-gaze-flipping scene from Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman. Then in Sabiha Sumar’s Silent Waters the audience itself is guided through a discovery that changes everything about how they view the story. More about the Guest Moderator: Jasmine Jones is the Film Curator for the Houston Museum of African American Culture (HMAAC), Jasmine Jones has curated and marketed a successful film series while managing strategic partnerships with QFest: The Houston International LGBTQ Film Festival, and the Houston Cinema Arts Festival. While at HMAAC, she launched and served as the Co-Director of the Houston African Film Festival, the first African film festival in the city of Houston. In addition to film curation, she has lead regional marketing campaigns for major motion pictures such as Straight Outta Compton, The Jungle Book, Peanuts: The Movie, The Boss, and many others. She is also the creator of Film Jones, the premier source for reviews, news, and coverage of film, television, and digital content by and about people of the African Diaspora and is currently directing a documentary about the history and current state of Black beach communities. Ms. Jones holds a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies and a Master of Arts in Communication from the University of Central Florida. More about the Series: Women Make Film is an epic exploration of the art and craft of cinema as told through the compelling lens of some the world’s greatest directors — all women! In 14 one-hour episodes, Women Make Film, narrated by Executive Producer Tilda Swinton, director Mark Cousins cleverly utilizes close to a thousand film extracts from thirteen decades and five continents to deconstruct how films are made, shot and edited, how stories are shaped, and how movies depict life, love, politics, humor and death. Additional narration by Jane Fonda, Debra Winger, Adjoa Andoh, Kerry Fox, Thandie Newton, and Sharmila Tagore. Additional one-hour episodes will stream for the first two weeks of each month. A follow-up live discussion via Zoom moderated by guest local industry professionals will take place on the 3rd Wednesday of each month. The series is offered FREE of charge thanks to the generosity of the Foundation for Independent Media Arts. 🍃🕊🍃 Merits of the 🍃🕊🍃
🕋 Month of Rajab 🕋
Excerpted from - Mafatih al-Jinan
🍃 Afzal Sumar 🍃

Is Bee Honey A Beneficial Option To Treat Cystic Fibrosis?
Honey is a natural and affordable ingredient used as a suitable alternative to medicines in many lung problems. It has long been used as a natural remedy to treat several diseases and as a key ingredient in various preparations such as antihistamines, expectorants, cough suppressants, and painkillers. But have you ever heard about the benefits of bee honey in treating cystic fibrosis? Yes, it is true! Reading further about how honey helps treat this disease lets us understand more about cystic fibrosis.
What is Cystic Fibrosis?
Cystic Fibrosis is a hereditary disease that most generally influences the lungs. It is autosomal recessive, which implies that two copies of the defective gene cause the disease.
The impacts of cystic fibrosis include trouble breathing and coughing up sputum created because of lung infections that often happen because of the disease. Unfortunately, there is no cure for this illness as of now.
Does Bee Honey Help in Curing Cystic Fibrosis?
Monofloral honey, produced using the nectar of a single type of flower, is widely known for its benefits in curing cystic fibrosis. Monofloral honey contains many compounds that give a variety of beneficial properties that are not present in the regular honey that we consume.
These beneficial compounds offer honey antiseptic, antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory properties. Because of its wide range of medicinal benefits, monofloral honey like Manuka honey, Clover honey, etc., are constantly regarded as a “wonderfood”, and rightly so.
(1) In Treats Respiratory Infections –
Combinations of monofloral honey with antibiotics have been found to have a potent effect in inhibiting the growth of the bacteria even if consumed in minimum quantities.
(2) It is a Great Anti-Inflammatory Agent –
A patient suffering from cystic fibrosis often experiences lung problems due to clogging of the airways because of mucus buildup. This inflammation usually results in causing a variety of other symptoms that are associated with the disease. Honey is known to have a powerful effect against inflammation because of the methylglyoxal content and other factors present in it.
How to Consume Honey in the Right Way to Avail Benefits?
As bee honey is entirely a natural food, there is no specific dosage for consuming it. However, it is generally recommended that it is safe to consume one teaspoon of honey in between meals daily orally 2-3 times a day.
Honey can be consumed with or without water. Make sure to use lukewarm or cold water to mix honey. It is suggested never to mix honey in hot water, as the high temperature leads to removing many of the essential compounds present in honey.
Though cystic fibrosis doesn’t have a cure, monofloral honey can be used as a treatment option for the undesirable conditions that are caused by the disease. Honey has been used to have a potent action against inflammation and infection both. As limited research shows the utility of honey in cystic fibrosis, it can surely help manage the condition by reducing cough and inflammation.

🍃🕊🍃 Merits of the 🍃🕊🍃
🍃 Month of Rajab 🍃
Excerpted from - Mafatih al-Jinan
🍃 Afzal Sumar 🍃
There are four sacred months for the Muslim community. One of them is the month of Rajab, This booklet highlights the benefits of fasting, praying and respecting this special month.
****
It is narrated from the Prophet (saw) who said: ‘the month of Rajab is the greatest month of Allah. No month can come close to matching its sanctity and grace. Fighting the disbelievers in it is prohibited.1 Indeed, Rajab is the month of Allah, while Shaʿban is my month and (the month of) Ramaḍan is the month of my community. Surely, the one who fasts (even) one day in (the month of) Rajab deserves the greatest pleasure of Allah. The wrath of Allah moves away from him, and a door from the doors of hell is closed for him.’
The seventh Imam Musa b. Jaʿfar (as) (d. 183 AH / 799 AD) said: ‘whoever fasts one day in the month of Rajab has the fire (of hell) keep away from him the distance of one year, while whoever fasts three days (in this month) has paradise become incumbent for him.’

Yemeni Honey – Knowing Its Origin And Types
Yemen has long been known for producing the best quality honey globally. Amid the harshness of the Yemeni desert, the sweetness of this unique honey type is cherished as a symbol of perseverance. Probably the best, and purest honey, comes from honey bees that collect the nectar from the blossoms of the Sidr tree, delivering pale-colored honey with a bitter aftertaste.
While the wars in the Yemeni region have made travel troublesome, shutting down numerous streets for customary beekeepers, life is a lot of something similar: many beekeepers in Yemen can traverse frontlines effortlessly, moving around every few months in search of flowers for their bees. However, Yemen's honey industry faces many difficulties. Fuel deficiencies, landmines, and frontlines obstruct farmers transporting colonies to feed on seasonal plants. Climate change is also seen as a problem.
All these war-like situations usually come to mind whenever people think of Yemen. Still, it is surprising to know the Yemen region is more popular because of the honey varieties it offers to worldwide customers. Below are the five popular raw Yemeni honey types that are healthy to consume and absolutely delicious to taste –
(1) Yemeni Sumar Honey -
This honey type got its name after the Sumar tree found in the Hadramout region, the primary source of nectar for the bees. Being the most popular variety of Yemeni honey, it offers a caramel taste without being excessively sweet.
(2) Yemeni Wildflower Honey –
Wildflowers grow in one of the remaining regions in Yemen that aren't polluted; additionally, in the Hadramout district, honey harvested in this locale takes its interesting flavor not just from the flowers from which the bees gather nectar but also from the surrounding environment. This is the most delicate Yemeni honey type with a sweet, pleasant aroma.
(3) Yemeni Sidr Doany –
The Sidr tree, also called Christ's Thorn or the Jujube tree, has been highlighted noticeably in the Middle East locale - the Pharaohs even utilized its wood wood to build some of their historically brilliant structures; it is also ubiquitous in Southern Yemen, especially in Wadi Do'an. In addition, thousands of beekeepers collect this honey twice a year from the mountains located in this remote desert region.
(4) Yemeni Sidr Wasabi –
This Yemeni honey variety comes from the Wasabi district between the north and south of Yemen. As this area is known for its bizarre soil and environment, Yemeni Sidr Wahabi honey offers an extremely rich toffee and butterfly flavor. It is different from other Yemeni honey types and is becoming popular due to its unique characteristics.
(5) Yemini Sidr Usami –
Sidr tree also originates from the Usaimat region located in northern Yemen, from where the bees collect nectar to produce Yemini Sidr Usami honey.
148 AH / 765 AD) transmits the following report from the Prophet of Allah (saw), who said: ‘(The month of) Rajab is the month of seeking repentance for my community, so increase the seeking of repentance in it for He (Allah) is Forgiving and Merciful. This month is called “al-Rajab al-Asabb” (i.e. the [month of] Rajab in which there is an abundant and excessive outpouring and flow).
